Description:

Giacomo Tarroni was born in Castel San Pietro Terme (Bologna, Italy) in 1983. He received a B.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering (summa cum laude) in 2005 and a M.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering for Biomedical Applications (summa cum laude) in 2008, both from the University of Bologna. In 2012 he obtained his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and Systems at the University of Bologna. He currently holds a postdoctoral position at the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Padova. He has ongoing collaborations with the University of Bologna (Profs. Claudio Lamberti and Cristiana Corsi) and the University of Chicago (Profs. Victor Mor-Avi and Roberto Lang). His main research interests are related to the field of biomedical image processing and include variational techniques for image segmentation, image registration and object tracking. His current research projects include the following ones:

  • Segmentation of aortic intima-media regions from fetal ultrasound images for automated extraction of intima-media thickness
  • Segmentation of ventricular surfaces from cardiac magnetic resonance images for automated extraction of volume-based parameters
  • Motion correction of brain volumes from arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance images
  • Tracking of ventricular structures from contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images for myocardial perfusion assessment
