Description:

Giovanni Sparacino was born in Pordenone, Italy, on November 11, 1967. He received the high-school diploma in July 1986 from Liceo Scientifico Grigoletti, Pordenone. On May 19, 1992, he received the Doctoral degree (Laurea) in Electronics Engineering cum laude from the University of Padova, Padova, Italy. On September 24, 1996, he received the PhD degree (Dottorato di Ricerca) in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milano. From 1992 to 1996 he was a PhD fellow in Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Information Engineering (formerly known as Department of Electronics and Informatics) of the University of Padova. From January 1997 to December 1998 he was enrolled as a Research Engineer at the Department of Audiology and Phoniatrics of the University of Padova. In December 1998 he re-joined the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova as a Research Scientist (Ricercatore) of Biomedical Engineering. Since January 2005 he is Associate Professor (Professore Associato) of Biomedical Engineering at the same Department.

His scientific interests include deconvolution and parameter estimation techniques for the study of physiological systems, linear and nonlinear biological time-series analysis, estimation of evoked potentials (single-trial, improved averaging, steady-state responses), continuous glucose monitoring (calibration, denoising and prediction). On these topics, he published more than 70 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and tens of other contributions in books and conference proceedings.

He has contributed to several research projects funded by MIUR-MURST, EU, and NIH and he has served as reviewer for several journals IEEE Transactions on Biomedical EngineeringAnnals of Biomedical Engineering, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedical Engineering and Control Engineering Practice.

Since Academic Year 1997-98 he is in charge of teaching courses on Biomedical Engineering, Informatics, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Signal Processing in several curricula of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Padova. During Academic Year 1999-2000, he also delivered the course Modelling of Physiological Systems for the European Postgraduate Course on Biomedical Engineering (hosted at the University of Patras, Greece) and the course Medical Informatics for the Diploma (B.S.) degree in  Biomedical Engineering at the University of Padova. During Academic Year 2002-2003, he also delivered the course Biomedical Signal Processing for the Diploma degree in Biomedical Engineering. Since 2004-2005 he is in charge of teaching Medical Informatics for the Laurea Magistrale degree (MS) in Bioengineering. Since 2006-2007, he also delivers the course entitled Analysis of Biological Data for the Laurea Magistrale degree (MS) in Bioengineering.
